Hiitom Orbiam community and its environs of Ushongo Local Government Area in Benue State has been thrown into mourning following the tragic death of a middle aged woman after given birth to a set of quadruplets at a private facility in the community.
Information available to our correspondent, yesterday, in Makurdi, indicates that after the woman’s death which was blamed on complications and poor healthcare services, two of the babies she had earlier delivered before she was rushed to the facility also passed on.
In an interview with journalists, a health officer in charge of the facility, Isaac Gbilin said the deceased mother was brought to the facility at about 4:00 am on the fateful day in a wheelbarrow after she had delivered the first two babies on the way and later the last two at the clinic.
He said after delivery, the victim had ran shot of blood while the babies were discovered to be pre-matured.
Gbilin also disclosed that efforts by the Benue State Emergency Management Agency, BSEMA, whose swift rescue to move the woman and the babies to Benue State University Teaching Hospital, BSUTH, Makurdi for better healthcare attention did not yield positive results leading to the death of the others.
He said efforts by the team from BSEMA to rush one of the quadruplets who was still alive to the general hospital Katsina-ala to stabilize her was in vain as the baby also died in the process.
Commenting, kindred head of Hiitom Orbiam, Samuel Iorhule expressed appreciation to the state government for its prompt action, appealing for provision of basic amenities in the area.
