Works resume in Kebbi following Labour’s directives

A visit to some parts of Birnin Kebbi, the capital of Kebbi State at the early hours of Wednesday had shown that workers have resumed official activities in the state following directive of organised labour, which relaxed the strike for about one week.

Kebbi State organised labour had on Tuesday directed all civil servants and the public sector to resume work on Wednesday.

Announcing the suspension of the nationwide strike directed by the umbrella body of the union which was complied by the state chapter, the acting chairman of Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Kelani Abdulwaliyu said the industrial action has been relaxed for five days to allow for negotiation at the top level.

Speaking further, he explained that the struggle is not for workers alone but all Nigerians due to the situations the citizens found themselves caused by the removal of fuel subsidy.

He assured Nigerians that there will be light at the end of dark tunnel as the union presses home their demands for living wage for all categories of workers in the country.

The state labour chief who described the labour outing as impressive and encouraging thanked all affiliates, civil servants, journalists, Kebbi head of service, security agencies particularly DSS and the general public for their enormous support during the labour strike.

“We hereby directs all public and private entities to immediately reopen for business on Wednesday pending next directive from the mother body.

He called on their affiliates and stakeholders to remain at alert as the strike was not called off but relaxed as new directive may be given regarding the industrial action.
