Yabo/Shagari Federal Constituency: INEC conducts stakeholders meeting

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Sokoto State has conducted elections stakeholders forum meeting over the rerun election soon to be conducted at Yabo/Shagari Federal Constituency

Speaking at the brief ceremony, the Sokoto INEC Administrative Secretary, Barrister Hauwa Aliyu Kangiwa explained that it is necessary as a result of the court order that re-run elections be conducted in 18 RAs, 46PUs across four local governments of Yabo/Shagari Federal Constituency.

Similarly, in compliance to the Court order and conformity with the electoral act 2022 part IV- procedure at election section 28 (3) provides for notice of election, which states that: “In the case of a bye-election, the Commission shall, not later than 14 days before the date appointed for the election, publish a notice stating the date of election”.

As notice of election was in affected areas was published to commence on January 4 and campaigns on January 5 and ends on February 1, it became imperative on INEC to give relevant electoral statistics of those affected polling units, RAs and Constituencies as contained in the Court order.

Speaking on the election materials, Barr. Kangiwa said ballot papers and result sheets will be brought to Sokoto for distribution to respective LGAs on 2nd February 2024.

She then commended the contributions of critical stakeholders for the success recorded in the state in the electoral process saying the security agencies are ready to discharge their constitutional responsibilities.

Head of department of Electoral Operations Dr. AbdulMumini Usman and political parties representatives offered advices and contributions towards successful conduct of the elections.
