Thr president general, Tiv Youth Organization, TYO, Comrade Aondongu Anza, has challenged Tiv youths to rise up in defence of Tiv nation under siege by suspected herdsmen since 2014, describing the land as the only inheritance from their forefathers.
Anze who gave the charge when he spoke Thursday, in Makurdi, during the inauguration of coordinators of the organization in the 14 local government areas of Tiv extraction, argued that since the land was the only inheritance given to the Tiv by their forefathers, tradition demands that the youths who are the strength of the Tiv nation must rise up to take ownership.
The president general who said the tasks must be accomplished explained that the present action became necessary, pointing out that difficult decisions at times go with difficult situations and described the move as the only sure way to record success which he believed would be in the interest of the entire Tiv race.
He lamented that Tiv people known everywhere as the fourth largest nationality in the country were not only relegated to the background in terms of employment opportunities and appointments in the past but are equally becoming slaves in their own land, justifying his argument on the displacement of thousands of Tiv people by suspected Fulani herdsmen now living in IDP camps more than 10 years.
Anza equally noted with displeasure that farming season was approaching and the Tiv whose main occupation is farming were surrounded by enemies both outside and within.
Responding after the official inauguration done by Barr M.S Kwaghtyo,on behalf of the coordinators, Terseer Neeryum from Katsina-ala Local Government Area expressed appreciation to the president general TYO and his EXCO for finding them worthy of the task to salvage the Tiv nation.
