Benue State Governor, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia, has unveiled an ambitious plan to transform the state into a sports hub in Nigeria.
Speaking at a seminar for media officers of NPFL clubs, Governor Alia revealed that his administration has mapped out strategies to develop sports infrastructure and talent in the state.
“Within one year in office, my administration has reintroduced the Governor’s Cup and commenced renovation work at the Aper Aku Stadium, which is expected to be completed within eight weeks”. Alia told the gathering.
According to him, the renovated stadium will have an international-standard pitch, enabling Lobi Stars FC to return to their home ground in Makurdi.
The Governor also announced plans to upgrade football pitches across the state to international standards, with renovation work set to begin at the JS Tarka Stadium in Gboko, emphasizing that the move is aimed at reviving football in the state and harness talented players.
Governor Alia expressed his appreciation to the NFF and NPFL officials for hosting the seminar in Benue and promised not to disappoint the association.
The Chief Operating Officer of NPFL, Davidson Owumi, emphasized the importance of media officers in improving football in Nigeria, while the president of the forum of premier league media directors, Eche Amos, commended Governor Alia for his contributions to sports development in the state.
