Members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Benue State who have taken their grievances to court without exploring the internal dispute resolution mechanisms provided in the party’s laws arising from the ongoing elective congresses have been advised to withdraw such actions and abide by the party’s laws.
Speaking on behalf of Benue PDP stakeholders for peace and unity during a press conference held Tuesday in Makurdi, leader of the group, Laha Dzever acknowledged the challenges that have arisen from the conduct of the ongoing elective congresses, but observed that these challenges highlight the viability and attractiveness of the party.
He expressed gratitude to the National Working Committee, the National Ward Congress Committee, and the National Local Government Congress Committee for their work in conducting the congresses and equally welcomed the Caretaker State Working Committee, led by AVM (Rtd.) Napoleon Bali, and commended their work so far.
Leader of the stakeholders also passed a vote of confidence on the National Working Committee, the leader of the PDP in Benue State, immediate past governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, and Senate Minority Leader, Patrick Abba Moro.
Dzever however, urged the Benue PDP family to close ranks and place the interests of the party above individual or group interests as well as called on those that won to be magnanimous in victory and those who lost to accept in good faith the outcome of the exercises conducted, reminding members of the party that there will be more opportunities for elective offices in the future.
He emphasized the need for adherence to the laws of the party, which provide for safeguarding the rights of its members and the obligations they owe it, and urged members to explore internal dispute resolution mechanisms before seeking legal action.
