By Austin Angwe, Makurdi

The management of Reverend Father Moses Orshio Adasu University Makurdi (MOAUM) has disclosed that the institution has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with a private firm for the construction of a 1000-capacity hostel on the university campus.

This development is expected to ease the accommodation problem that has been a challenge for students.

Acting Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Simon Ubwa, made the disclosure, Wednesday, during an interview with journalists at his office in Makurdi.

He expressed optimism that the accommodation issue would be a thing of the past in the next two years.

Professor Ubwa also denied allegations of admission lacketeering, stating that the university management has not conducted any employment exercise since 2019, making it impossible for anyone to collect money for employment or admission.

The Acting VC also highlighted some of the achievements of his administration, including the promotion of over 146 senior lecturers and associate professors who were awaiting promotion for four years.

He emphasized that his administration prioritizes the welfare of both staff and students, citing the provision of constant water supply, fixing of generators, and restoration of electricity in the staff quarters and hostels.

However, Professor Ubwa expressed displeasure with the ongoing strike by the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) over the non-implementation of the new minimum wage.

He appealed to the striking officers to embrace dialogue and return to work, noting that Governor Alia is working to resolve the matter.

On the issue of a substantive Vice Chancellor, Professor Ubwa stated that the position has been advertised and that the process is ongoing.
