INEC promise to investigate wrong figures in Edo election result sheets

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has promised to investigate wrong figures imputed into the Edo State governorship election result sheets as currently circulating on social media.

INEC made this known via its official X handle in the early hours of Sunday saying the commission has received two complaints out of 4,519 polling unit used for the election across the state.

According to the post: “The Commission’s attention has been drawn to an allegation of wrong figures entered into polling unit result sheets in the ongoing Edo State Governorship election.

“This is the second complaint we have received out of the 4,519 polling units used for the election. The Commission will immediately investigate the matter and deal with any proven infraction”, INEC affirmed.

At the moment, the social media, especially X, is being flooded with questionable results from different polling units in Edo State as some of the complainants called for total cancellation of the exercise, which they believed was compromised.

Meanwhile, INEC has uploaded over 98% of polling unit result sheets of Saturday’s Edo State Governorship Election on the commission’s Result Viewing Portal (IReV).

Out of the 4519 polling units, the electoral umpire has uploaded the result sheets of 4435 polling units on the portal as of 02:00 am on Sunday.

On Saturday, September 21, 2024, the people of Edo State in South-South Nigeria voted to elect a new governor to succeed the incumbent, Godwin Obaseki, whose constitutional eight-year double terms will end on November 12, 2024.
