The chairman, Kebbi State Local Government Service Commission, LGSC, Muhammad Ashiru Garba, has said that within two months of his assumption of office has cleared backlog of promotions of over three thousand staff of local governments staff across the state.
Garba stated that aside promotion, the Commission also cleared files of deceased staff of the 21 local councils to enable their families get death benefits payments which is their means of livelihood.
“I don’t allow any file in my office or in any department to lay more than 24 hours particularly on death benefits, promotion or change of cadre of any staff.”
According to him, the only way to ensure productivity in the local governments service is to make sure all rights and privileges of local governments staff are accorded its deserved attention as the third tier nearest to the poor which brings developments to the grassroots.
Ashiru, explained that he met the offices of the Commission in a state of dilapidation but with lean resources he has been able to fix all of them in order to give the staff habitable office accommodation for maximum performance.
He urged local government staff across the state to remain upright, dedicated to their duties and shun corruption as it has no place under his watch saying Governor Nasir Idris is upbeat in staff remunerations and welfare they should in turn must give the government maximum productivity in service delivery.
He pointed out that Kebbi State government under Governor Idris has made adequate arrangements to assist staff with issues of fire incidents or whose houses were consumed by flood therefore they should not hesitate to come forward with such demands as the governor will listen to them and assist through the Commission.
