A supposedly determined Nigerian president, Bola Tinubu, against corruption is under siege in Nigeria, a country that stinks with corruption in all sectors in facing yet another judicial charade amid an already obnoxious system where corruption thrive with impunity.
Years have gone by from the military to civil rule, Nigeria is yet to get it right in terms of efforts to stamp out the scourge of dingy corruption soiling the name of Nigeria at the global stage. Just when we think our president will get it right if he maintains the “no holds barred” against endemic corruption, there comes the sledgehammer from some shameless governors in court to seek the disbandment of the anti-graft agency the EFCC. One wonders whether those governors have soul or even know the definition of shame thus one will be right to say they are the greatest enemies of the country.
Public purse has become the personal money making machines for most political office holders in Nigeria as they flaunt corruption in public glare and no one dares to challenge them even as the sitting duck EFCC stares them on face at least to remind them that at the end of their tenures as governors will give financial stewardship of their governments.
To dispel the discomfort they want the EFCC out of the way to ensure unhindered corruption in the ailing country bedeviled by corruption and poor governance, to do that, however, they need the judiciary to nail the coffin and finally bury the anti-corruption body in Nigeria.
Now, our president, Tinubu is in the center of it all as the world shift focus on Nigerian judiciary and the man at helm of affairs of the country whose body language indicates readiness not to spare anyone involve in corruption or will the governors find their way at the court to shame the president resolve to end corruption in Nigeria.
As we look on, it remains to be seen whether EFCC will breath again and save the president the international shame or will the name of Nigeria continue to sink deeper in the dirty waters of corruption as the anti-corruption siege rages on. As it stands now, the entire nation is under siege being fueled by some powerful governors from different regions in Nigeria who feel that the monies belongs to them and to no one else.
