We have done a lot for our people, says Bogoro council chairman

Hon Lawi Yakubu Sumi is the Executive Chairman Bogoro Local Government Area of Bauchi State. He was born on 26th day of January 1958 in Vingam village of Bogoro Local Government Area of Bauchi State to the family of late Folmi Alkamu of Lusa. He is married to Mrs Apphia Lawi Sumi and happily blessed with five children. In this interview with our correspondent ABDULLAHI IDRIS in Bauchi, the council boss bared his mind on sundry issues. Excerpt:

 

What is your educational background

I attended Transferred RCM primary school Yelwan Shandam in Plateau State from 1968 to 1974, and then proceeded to Government College Pankshin from 1974 to 1979 where l obtained West African School Certificate. Then I proceeded to University of Maiduguri from the year 1980 to 1984 where l graduated with BSc Geography. I gained admission into Ahmadu Bello University Zaria from 1987 to 1989 where l obtained MSc on Lands and Survey in 1991. In the year 2015, l became registered surveyor with the Surveyors Council of Nigeria to practice as a registered surveyor. I am a member of Nigeria Institutions of Surveyors (MNIS) and attended many local and international conferences.

Can you tell us little about your work experience?

I was a lecturer in College of Arts and Science Bauchi from 1985 to 1987, and  Lecturer II from 1989 to 1991 in same college, and later Lecturer I at Bauchi State Polytechnic in 1993 and Lecturer II at Abubakar Tafawa University Bauchi from 1994 t0 2023.

What are some of your achievements as a local government chairman?

I upgraded all the health facilities, donate equipment and drugs to all healthcare facilities across Bogoro local government area of Bauchi state, and the in the area of agriculture we purchased new tractors as a government to boast agricultural development and technology and distributes assorted fertilizer to farmers. We equally renovated hundreds of boreholes, constructed overhead tanks and new boreholes across my local government, Bogoro. We have done a lot for our local government since coming into office.

We did maintenance aspects of bridge at Dutse Lawan, newly constructed shops at Kalambu Cattle Market, construction of Bogoro BOI and Lusa village heads palaces, completion of CAN secretariat Bogoro, Molmol road maintenance and newly constructed executive chairman’s residence.

We also acquired new guest house, purchased two 406 Peugeot for chairman and deputy chairman, purchased council vehicle, purchased and distribution of motorcycles to councilors and their aides, and repaired of long grounded WASH Hilux Vehicle.

From time to time we do visited General Hospital Bogoro to render some assistance to sick people, free medical outreach at the hospital and awarded scholarship to hundred of students across various institutions of learning in Nigeria. We also supported security agencies in the local government with logistics.

What can you say concerning the New Year 2026?

We must appreciate God for the gift of life and good health and opportunities to the right things. All praise be to the Divine Grace for His blessings and wisdoms.

What are some legacies of Governor Bala Mohammed in Bauchi State?

Governor Bala Mohammed has been doing very well; effectively and brilliantly that His Excellency has transformed the state in all perspectives. We must appreciate him as our mentor and political leader in the state.
