Journalists impose ban on coverage of Benue SUBEB’s activities

Members of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Nigerian Union of Journalists,  NUJ, Benue State Council Wednesday,  disclosed that it has placed a ban on all activities of Benue State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB,

The ban contained in resolutions after an emergency congress of the chapel held at its secretariat in Makurdi, further revealed that the decision became possible following what it described as unguided utterances of the Executive Chairman of the Board, Dr Grace Adagba.

The resolutions signed by Chairman of the chapel Emmanuel Antswen and Titus Atondu secretary, explained that during the visit by members of the Corresponts’Chapel to her office, the SUBEB boss tagged journalists in Benue State including members of Correspondents’Chapel as opposition party.

Members of the chapel in the statement recalled with displeasure that the SUBEB Chairman also accused journalists of under reporting Governor Hyacinth Alia’s activities describing her position as unacceptable.

Congress in the statement commended Governor Hyacinth Alia for his developmental strides within nine months of his administration which it noted has earned him several awards including governor of the year award by a reputable media organisation recently.

The statement said Congress equally acknowledged the efforts of the media handlers of the governor, especially the Chief Press Secretary Mr Tersoo Kula and the Principal Special Assistant Media and Publicity/Strategic Communication Mrs Bridget Kyado for their attempts to resolve the issue.

The Congress which also resolved that the chapel would not take lightly, any form of disrespect or demeaning utterances or statements from any member of the public against them, also advised the SUBEB Chairman Dr Grace Adagba, to withdraw her uncomplimentary remarks and tender unreserved appology.
