190 technocrats to work towards established goals of Sokoto Agric ministry

190 technocrats and bureaucrats are set to work towards established goals of the Ministry of Agriculture in Sokoto State.

State Commissioner for Agriculture, Bello Muhammad Wamakko stated this while addressing newsmen on the achievements of Governor Ahmad Aliyu’s one year in office.

The Commissioner who was represented by the Permanent Secretary Sani Muhammad Tambuwal said the Ministry with its sizeable workforce of 190 personnel comprising technocrats, bureaucrats and other supporting staff at various specialized departments are working in harmony for the realisation of the established goals of the Ministry.

He said the focus of the Ministry is to develop appropriate framework to enhance the capacity of farmers with requisite skills in keeping with the dynamics of global best practices towards achieving food sufficiency and providing the needed raw materials for local consumption and export of surplus farm produce to enhance revenue generation as well as foreign exchange.

Enumeraring further, Wamakko said the state government has procured grains such as rice, millet and maize amounting to N5 billion from local contractors.

On projection plans of the state government is rehabilitation of Kalmalo Dam abandoned and neglected since 1928.

Another plan is procurement of farm implements as tractors and other machineries to boost farming activities in the state.

Another outstanding achievements amongst many is the payment of counterpart funds to ATASP to the tune of two hundred and seventy million naira for the construction of Kware Irrigation Scheme.
